Makar Sankranti festival always falls on January 14. Although sankrant comes every month, Makar sankranti occurs when the sun is in the zodiac sing of Capricorn. Makar accouding to the hindu calendar. When the sun is in this position it is considered to be very auspicious. People who celebrate makar sanskranti have baths early in the morning offer water to the sun god and give something away in charity.
There is no particular go or goddess one prays to on makar sankranti but puja is performed like on any other day. In days of joint families the daughters – in – law of the family gave little gifts to their mothers in law and to the other members of the family. The daughter - in – law touches the feet of the elders and, gets their blessings. Makar sankranti is celebrated all over india. The way it is celebrated may differ. But the thoughts are alike.
